
Poetry Competition
A Company of Poets: The Jim Gittings Poetry Competition
sponsored by the Greenville Technical College Writing Center
Objective of the Contest: To provide an incentive to aspiring student-poets.
Competition Rules
1. Contestants must be registered students of Greenville Technical College.
2. One poem per contestant.
3. Only original, unpublished work will be accepted.
4. Entries must be written in the English language.
5. Since GTC is a state-supported institution, no questionable subject matter should be included in your poem.
6. E-mail your submission to ross.wagner@gvltec.edu as a Microsoft Word attachment. In the body of the e-mail, please provide a brief introduction to yourself and your work, including the following: your name, e-mail, phone number, and address, as well as the title of your submission. (Please do not copy and paste submissions into the body of the e-mail.)
7. The deadline for 2008 entries is April 21st by 12:00 pm.
A Board of Judges will evaluate the entries in April 2008. The first-place winner will receive $50.00; second place will receive $25.00. In addition, the top five poems will be published in Blue Granite Review, the online literary and visual arts journal of Greenville Technical College.
Jim Gittings was a journalist, editor, and published poet who, for several years, served as a consultant in the Writing Center and who very much believed in the power of poetry.
